Research shows that people are more likely to comply with requests of persons wearing a tailored outfit. Respondents in one study consistently complied with the random requests of a person wearing a tailored -- police inspired outfit, but not when the same person was wearing ordinary casual clothing.

Tailored clothing subconsciously reminds people of a uniform, so they attribute the traits associated with people who wear uniforms — authority, competence, reliability and professionalism, to the person wearing tailored clothing.


Why does it matter...?
If you want to strengthen your position of authority and elicit compliance, but sure your clothing is sending the same message as your instructions.
